HEBRIDEAN HOLIDAYS CAMPSITE
We are a family run campsite located on the picturesque west coast of North Uist in the heart of the RSPB’s Balranald Nature Reserve. Located beside a beautiful sandy beach, the site is an ideal base for exploring Uist and is a bird watchers paradise with a huge variety of wading and farmland birds nesting on the flower-rich machair and croft land. Horseshoe Bay is only 40m from the site entrance and is great for walking, kite surfing, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding and watching the sunset on an evening. We are pet friendly – dogs, cats, tortoises etc are all welcome.
We provide first class facilities for campers, touring caravans and motor homes. We also offer self-catering accommodation in our Corncrake Pod and Kettle Cottage. What our Guests Say...
EXCELLENT Based on 250 reviews Posted on Tripadvisor A HVerified September 2025 Always enjoy my stay here at Balranald. The Dunes is excellent, the vending facility amazing, but nothing beats the N Uist vibe.Posted on Tripadvisor Helen TVerified Brilliant bird-filled campsite on North Uist Best campsite I’ve stayed at in the Outer Hebrides so far! Lovely, modern, clean facilities. Friendly, helpful staff. And the setting so close to the beach and looking out over crofting land next to the RSPB reserve is fantastic. So much bird life around. AND 7.5mins in the shower for £1! Couldn’t believe it after a week of £1 for 3mins. The larder next door is a really neat idea for grabbing bits and pieces to eat 24hrs a day - handy if you get caught short on a late arrival or by Sunday closing. Loved this site, can’t say enough good things about it. Wish I could have stayed longer and I’ll definitely be back.Posted on Tripadvisor Gordon NVerified Really clean and well kept site. Really lovely little site . Great views by nice easily accessible walks. Toilets kept spotless, friendly staff. WiFi coverage fast and reliable. The £1 shower charge was a good idea, no annoying buttons to keep pressing and easily long enough for a shower.Posted on Tripadvisor StuartVerified Amazing location ❤️ Fantastic location and facilities very clean and modern friendly staff beautiful beach ⛱️ and surrounding area had a lovely swim and paddle board absolutely loved our stay 😉❤️Posted on Tripadvisor shiona pVerified Best campsite ever What a lovely campsite! So well maintained, clean, and the facilities like a drying room for wet boots, jackets and towels made it really special. All the toilet blocks and laundry rooms were well heated, and hairdryers provided. In a fabulous location for bird watching, beautiful beaches, and great walks.Posted on Tripadvisor TMAC088Verified AMAZING Balranald campsite is a really lovely campsite with immaculate facilities. The staff are friendly and very helpful. There are 2 toilet and shower blocks which are impeccably clean. One has an amazing drying room and the other has the office which includes a small shop and the site kitchen. The kitchen is well equipped with 2 deep sinks, washing machine, tumble dryer, fridge, microwave and kettle. There were even fresh flowers on the windowsills. The Dunes Cabin is located on the campsite and has a great menu including hot and cold rolls, homemade soup and home baking. I had the best prawn roll ever when I was there. There is also the Dunes Larder which is a large barn like building with a 24hour vending machine selling local produce, used by both holidaymakers and locals. Hougharry beach is right next to the campsite (minutes walk away) across the dunes which were covered with wildflowers. This is a horseshoe bay and here we saw some beautiful sunsets. The campsite is also located in the Balranald RSPB nature reserve. I just loved my stay here.Posted on Tripadvisor Lily WVerified Perfect campsite in North Uist Beautiful location for a campsite, located by 2 beautiful beaches in close walking distance. Facilities were always spotlessly clean and staff were really helpful and accommodating. 24hr larder as well, perfect for getting away from the wind!Posted on Tripadvisor Travel592840Verified Grateful Arrived on site, friendly welcome from Dave, met up with Ann lovely to be back, went up to the Pod where I was greeted by a nearby calling Corncrake, the Pod was immaculate as is all the facilities.Staff, and location are all excellent Visit number 8,not much else I can say that hasn't been said in reviews.Posted on Tripadvisor Robert LVerified A Haven for Travellers A haven for campers or van users, esp when the weather is harsh and you need to get sorted out. Well thought out facilities and the drying room is a real treat! Good value, very clean and great access to stunning beaches which are just over the dunes. Food outlet and local vending are a nice addition. Lovely staff too!
