Our Location

We are located on the picturesque west coast of North Uist.

  • 16 miles from the ferry terminal at Lochmaddy,
  • 18 miles from ferry terminal at Berneray,
  • 19 miles from Benbecula Airport
  • 42 miles from the ferry terminal at Lochboisdale and
  • 49 miles from the ferry terminal at Eriskay.

Below is some more information on how to get to North Uist, and how to find us when you are here.

By Sea
There are daily ferry sailings from Uig in Skye to Lochmaddy; and Leverburgh in Harris to Berneray. Alternatively, there are sailings from Mallaig or Oban to Lochboisdale and Oban to Castlebay, Isle of Barra. For information and on-line reservation for ferries between the Outer Hebrides and mainland and inter-island ferries visit Caledonian MacBrayne – Hebridean Ferries (https://www.calmac.co.uk). Booking in advance is essential.

By Air
There are daily flights from Glasgow and Stornoway to Balivanich Airport. For information and on-line reservations for flights between the Outer Hebrides and the mainland, please visit Loganair (https://www.loganair.co.uk/).

Directions By Road once on Uist

Travelling from Lochmaddy Ferry Terminal

Travel through Lochmaddy Village and bear left onto the A867. Travel 8 miles to Clachan (look out for Clachan Stores on the right) and at T-junction turn right onto the A865. Continue for 8 miles to Hogha Gearraidh Junction and turn left (Do not turn left at Baile Raghail, Balranald). Continue for 1 mile along this road and bear left following signs for RSPB Visitor Centre. The campsite is beyond the visitor centre. Do not follow signs Motorhome 1km – this is not our site.

Travelling from the North/Berneray Ferry Terminal

Turn left from the Berneray Ferry Terminal and continue across the causeway onto North Uist. Turn right at the T-junction and continue for 1 mile. Turn left onto the B893 and continue for 2.5 miles. Turn right at T-junction onto the A865 and continue for 13 miles to Hogha Gearraidh Junction and turn right. Continue for 1 mile along this road and bear left following signs for RSPB Visitor Centre and Campsite. The campsite is beyond the visitor centre. Do not follow signs Motorhome 1km – this is not our site.

Travelling from South Uist and Benbecula

Take the A865 North from Benbecula and continue over the causeway onto North Uist. Continue to follow the A865 for approx. 15 miles to the Hogha Gearraidh Junction and turn left (Do not turn left at Baile Raghail, Balranald). Continue for 1 mile along this road and bear left  following signs for RSPB Visitor Centre and Campsite. The campsite is beyond the visitor centre. Do not follow signs Motorhome 1km – this is not our site.

Buses
Bus services are available on Mondays to Saturdays linking to/from Berneray for ferry connections to Harris, and with Lochmaddy and Benbecula. Service W18 serves the west side of North Uist and stops at the Balranald RSPB Nature Reserve. For timetables visit the Council website
