The Wildlife

Outer Hebrides Wildlife

The campsite is located in the heart of the RSPB’s Balranald Nature Reserve where you will find a huge variety of wading and farmland birds nesting on the flower-rich machair and croft land. The site provides an ideal location to see and hear the elusive Corncrake. Other birds include Snipe, Oystercatcher, Lapwing, Turnstone, Ringed Plover, Redshank, Skylark, Arctic Tern, Little Tern and Corn Bunting. Otters are also often seen in the freshwater lochs and along the rocky shores while grey seals can be seen just off the coast. There are fantastic views of the Monach Isles and St Kilda.
